Tekiah Hemp Co-op

Tekiak Hemp Co-op, established in 1998, produces Hemp Cloth and Hemp Rope Hammocks in their Floyd, VA location.

Four people are presently involved in the endeavor. The group's core values include clear and ongoing communication, ecological responsibility, growing organic food, emotional as well as physical & economic connections of respect, trust and support, consensus decision making, spirituality, and being of service to self, life and others.

The group states that "hammock making is a wonderful cottage industry for us. We have many meetings in the hammock shop or just hanging out and chatting while we weave. It is developing into a stable source of meaningful work that is often difficult to find in these Appalachian Mountains."

The group currently support themselves through organic gardening, agricultural research and consulting; and manufacturing and marketing hemp and Envirope hammocks.

One of their members is active with the Virginia Association for Biological Farming and Appalachian Sustainable Development .
