Hemp Rope Hammock

Hemp Rope Hammock


Hand woven bed, made with 4mm hemp rope, is complimented by hand woven 6mm hemp rope harnesses. The stainless steel hanging rings and solid white oak stretcher bars complete the picture of excellence. This hammock is large enough for two or more people and is tested for up to 450 lbs. The bed is 58 in. x 76 in. with a total length of 12.5 feet.

These hammocks are produced in Floyd, VA by a hemp co-op established in 1998. Four people are presently involved in the endeavor. The group's core values include clear and ongoing communication, ecological responsibility, growing organic food, emotional as well as physical & economic connections of respect, trust and support, consensus decision making, spirituality, and being of service to self, life and others.

The group states that in.hammock making is a wonderful cottage industry for us. We have many meetings in the hammock shop or just hanging out and chatting while we weave. It is developing into a stable source of meaningful work that is often difficult to find in these Appalachian Mountains. in.

The group currently support themselves through organic gardening, agricultural research and consulting; and manufacturing and marketing hemp and Envirope hammocks.

One of their members is active with the Virginia Association for Biological Farming and Appalachian Sustainable Development .
