The Himalayan Nettle or Girardinia Heterophylly belongs to the nettle family and grows above 7,000 feet. It is as tall as 8 to 16 feet and has long leaves and very pointy needles. This fiber is known locally as Allo. The nettle plant when processed yields very fine, soft and long fiber with a metallic luster. It is one of the strongest natural fibers, and will typically last longer than even hemp. It is as fine as silk when processed. The ethnic hill tribes of Nepal and the greater Himalayan region have used nettle as a fabric for hundreds of years, and take great pride in producing clothing, hats and bags made of nettle.
